The Story So Far....

March 14, 2017

Sister Madly were formed in the summer of 2015 by pianist and MD, Ian Surgenor, founder of the well-established covers band, The Guvnor’s. Ian had a vision to create a new band that had something a little different to offer - not one but two, very talented female lead singers. With Ian prominent in the music scene for over 30 years, he wanted to cover songs that other bands do not play, songs that he grew up with and left an impression on him, but most of all to cover songs that highlight the talent of Marie & Jo.

Several musicians came and went until the current line-up was established. Sister Madly played charity events, local Jam nights and a few local pub gigs in 2015 to bed themselves in and prepare themselves for what was to come.

Having worked extremely hard, 2016 the first full year for the band was a reasonable success. Having sold the idea to their Bass player Dave and Drummer Chris to play some “different” song choices handed out by Ian, including Abba, Tina Turner and even a bit of Olivia Newton John, Sister Madly were generating a growing fan base and gaining excellent feedback on their set list.

2016 saw the band play York Rocks against Cancer at the Grand Opera House in front of around 800 people for the local charity; York Against Cancer. This is a charity the band support and the event is something that Ian is heavily involved with. Ian has great passion for putting on shows with different musical genres to raise money for this amazing charity. In 2016, the band also played several weddings along with the pub venues and outdoor events.

Going forward the band the band are still supporting York Against Cancer in any way they can with several events already booked in for 2017. Check the gig guide to see how you can support.

2017 is going to take the band to a recording studio to record a demo CD to widen the market, this will allow them to advertise at wedding events. The band want to continue with the pub venues, as they love the atmosphere and enjoyment they bring. The plan is to focus more on corporate events, weddings, parties and the band are excited with what the future holds and have every faith Ian will get them to where they want to be.
